The 1st Annual SCC Conference

By Harvey

Over the past several weeks we have been attempting to organize a conference of SCC members.  We puzzled over where to have the first conference and Nashville, Tennessee was selected as the most centralized for the majority of members.  We have established a preliminary agenda for the conference business aspects and have made the Best Western Music Row Hotel as the official conference hotel.  While not a plush, luxury hotel, it is clean, reasonably inexpensive and is very close to the Nashville scene.

One touristy thing we are considering at this point is to take a ride on the Nashville river boat.  Dee says that it is a lot of fun, so we are going to try it.  We are also hoping to arrange a tour of a recording studio and hope to see some country star doing a recording session.  Who knows, it could happen.

My Home Town - Grandview, Missouri
By Charmin

My home town is Grandview, Missouri. It is a small town just south of Kansas City. There were only a little over 300 in our school and 56 in my senior graduation class in 1958. It used to be like a small farming community. I have always jokingly called it “Truman Town”. Not to be mistaken for “Truman Ville” that the people from Independence have dubbed their town.

Harry Truman was born in Lamar, Missouri but he grew up in Grandview on his grandparent’s farm. My daughter’s husband was raised in the old farm house. His family rented the house from the Truman family and lived there for many years until it became a Federal Historical Sight. In fact my daughter and grandson lived there for a time. The land around the house that was part of the farm became the TRUMAN CORNERS SHOPPING CENTER. We also have a Harry Truman Drive and a Martha Truman Road.
